Introduction
An experienced Recruitment Director with 20 years cross sector knowledge with the last 17 years being within the rail sector.
Born in a manger, in Withington, Manchester, in the January of 1978. The sky was clear, the stars were bright, the US no. 1 song “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees played in the background. Little did Alan’s parents know the young chap they’d just brought into the world would have such a profound & positive impact on so many lives across the globe.
After a short stint at Nursery Alan moved to Junior School & then on to High School where after an extremely promising start, he didn’t particularly excel when it came to exams. He did however show some great sales promise in these early years where he sold sweets & drinks amongst other things to his fellow school friends. Alan is now married with 3 boys and still lives in Manchester.
Most of his spare time is spent with his family enjoying holidays, days out and generally having a blast. Favourite drinks – anything alcoholic with a special emphasis on shorts and shots.
Professional Life
Worked in the recruitment industry for 20 years having after being exposed to the glitz and glamour through a friend. Sectors include FM, trades & labour, pharma, O&G, construction, nuclear & water before finally finding an industry that’s interesting, faced paced and full of great people – the rail sector.
Joining Fission in July 2012 Alan spent the early years with Mark Heatherington working out of a small office in Mark’s garage with a desk, a laptop, and a mobile phone. These years were tough but built strong foundations for what is now a multi-million-pound turnover organisation with 2 offices in the North West employing 15 people.
Alan is also the Founder of UK Rail Safety, a dedicated week each year that brings the whole industry together to promote safety at all levels across the UK.
